I filed a divorce petition but my husband is not in favour.?
Just like any other civil matter, contested divorce takes time. Factors like custody of children (if any), alimony, monthly/annual maintenance claims etc make proceedings slower as opposed to a divorce by mutual consent. You have been living separately for nearly 2 years but when did you file for divorce? Your lawyer has a better understanding of the stage which your case is in. He should try and get things moving at a quicker pace. That being said, delay in court cases should be dealt with patiently by the petitioner. In the meantime, you can- Follow up with your lawyer on regular basis & request him to expedite the case. Find out ways to convince your husband that divorce is the only solution. On a average, contested divorce takes approx 3 - 4 yrs. Be patient.
