Update: within 2 hours of my reply below, someone has changed the text of original question to which I had replied. Don't know how quora is allowing such things. My answer below is meant for original question only. Written list which is also signed by 2 witnesses (apart from wife of course) is a minimum standard thing which needs to be done. Depending on situation, some people make a video also, which is an added protection. But it cant be said that it will confer any special safety on anyone. Unscrupulous women have been known to deny that they received ALL their jewellery/valuables etc. So that list will be good to the extent that SOME of the items (mentioned in the list) were given. To be clearer, the list should mention explicitly that ALL of wifes items have been given to her, and nothing is remaining with husband or husbands family members anymore. Any woman who plans to keep husband on the hook will not agree to such a request and in fact, to keep the things in legal limbo, in fact, they deliberately suggest that some of the things will be taken later from husbands house. That is a clear signal the intentions are not honourable, so one can as well prepare for the legal fight later.
