Can we file and continue with a divorce petition without any family?
I can only speak for California (trying to figure out more creative and entertaining ways to say that). Anyway, you can file a Petition for Dissolution in California. It will be a public record. Someone can go to the website for the county court in which you filed, and should be able to find you case in the case index (depending on what county; I think some smaller counties not electronic yet). But if no on thinks to look, it can remain your little secret. If you do things amicably, you will never even have to step foot in the actual courthouse. So the bottom line is, no one needs to know about it unless someone thinks to search for it.
